Optimize Your Results & Ensure a Smooth Recovery
At Benjamin Eye Institute, we want to ensure that your facial aesthetic treatment provides the best possible outcome while minimizing the risk of complications. Following these pre and post-care instructions will help you achieve optimal results and a smooth recovery.
Pre-Treatment Guidelines
- Avoid Sun Exposure: No tanning (including self-tanners and sunbathing) 4 weeks before and after treatment.
- No Smoking or Excessive Alcohol: Avoid for at least 24 hours before and after treatment to promote better healing.
- Stay Hydrated: Increase your fluid intake as recommended by your provider.
- Minimize Skin Irritation: Discontinue use of retinoids, exfoliants, and harsh skincare products at least 5-7 days before treatment.
- Medications & Medical History: Inform your provider of any medications, skin conditions, or recent procedures that may affect your healing process.
- Avoid Overheating: No saunas, hot showers, or strenuous workouts for at least 48-72 hours before and after treatment.
- Schedule Smartly: Allow adequate time for healing before major events, as mild redness, swelling, or skin sensitivity may be present.
Post-Treatment Care
First 24 Hours (Day 1)
- Avoid all direct sun and UV exposure—wear a wide-brimmed hat or visor if necessary.
- Apply only the recommended post-care products. Do not rub—pat onto the skin gently.
- Sleep on your back with your head elevated to minimize swelling.
- Avoid touching or picking at the treated area.
- Skin may feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal.
Day 2
- Continue to avoid sun exposure. Use shade protection if outdoors.
- Gently cleanse the skin twice daily with a mild, non-exfoliating cleanser.
- Apply a water-based emollient as needed to keep the skin hydrated. Pat on—do not rub.
- If cleared by your provider, you may use a gentle mineral-based makeup (for lower-intensity treatments only).
- Swelling may be more noticeable today—continue sleeping with head elevated to reduce puffiness.
Days 3-7
- Redness and swelling should start decreasing. Most swelling subsides by day 5.
- Micropores (tiny treatment dots) begin to slough off naturally—avoid picking or scrubbing.
- Continue gentle cleansing & applying a generous amount of emollient as needed.
- White vinegar soaks (1 tbsp vinegar:1 cup water) can help with exfoliation but are not necessary.
- SPF 50+ sunscreen is required when going outdoors—sun protection is essential for proper healing.
Beyond Day 7
- Continue daily SPF 50+ sun protection and wear a hat when exposed to the sun.
- Resume your normal skincare routine if your skin has healed properly (no drainage, open areas, or scabbing).
- Use a provider-recommended serum or moisturizer to maintain results.
- If needed, mineral-based makeup can be applied.
Signs to Watch For – Contact Your Provider If You Notice:
- Redness that worsens instead of improving.
- Blisters, open sores, or excessive drainage.
- Pain that gets worse instead of improving after 48 hours.
- Swelling that interferes with daily activities or does not start improving by day 2.
