Insurance Coverage & Payment Options

Most people don’t realize that visits to an ophthalmologist (EyeMD) are covered by health insurance. Insurance companies are smart enough to know that frequently “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.” That’s why even the most seemingly minor complaints, such as decreased vision, or dry or itchy eyes are covered by health insurance. No matter how serious or minor the complaint the visit is covered 99% of the time.

Some people may have a special optical rider in their health insurance policy or have separate “vision” insurance. Such insurance may go beyond the usual health coverage and may extend to the “optical” or vision portion of your visit. For example the policy may cover refraction or contact lens fitting, or an allowance may be given towards a purchase of contact lenss or glasses. You do not have to have this highly specialized “vision” insurance to visit an ophthalmologist (Eye MD).

Here at the Benjamin Eye Institute we are preferred providers for most insurance carriers. Below you will find a list of some of them. Being a preferred provider is a privilege that is granted to specially credentialed physicians. To you as a consumer of health care this means getting the best doctor at preferred negotiated rates. Because we strive to provide the best quality care for our patients, we do not accept any HMO health plans. The HMO’s create an inherent conflict of interest between a patient and a physician, and that is unacceptable to us. In our practice every patient is the most important patient.
