How Much Does LASIK Eye Surgery Cost?

We've all been victims of the ol' bait and switch at one time or another. Maybe you saw an advertisement for a great price on the car you'd been looking to purchase only to find out when you got to the dealership that there was only one car at that price (which had already been sold), and all the others were at priced much higher. Or the price advertised was for a base model. If you wanted power windows, locks, and a CD player, you'd wind up paying the price that every other dealership is asking.

Many eye surgery clinics, hurt by low demand during the economic downturn, also offer prices that seem too good to be true. As with the car you covet, they probably are. Read more

A Note from Dr. Benjamin

Benjamin Eye Institute has always been at the forefront of technological development. We were the first eye clinic to use Electronic Medical Records (12 years ago), before it was mandated by the federal government; the first eye clinc in LA to implant a multifocal ReSTOR lens; and Benjamin Eye Institute is home to a one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art, all-laser LASIK surgical suite featuring the most advanced Excimer laser system (Allegretto EyeQ400); we have also been a pioneer in laser cataract surgery.

Our latest technological breakthrough has to do with YOU, the customer. We now offer a new interactive webservice where new and existing patients can:

  • Make, schedule, and confirm appointments
  • Refer friends or family to our practice
  • Write reviews of their experience at the Benjamin Eye Institute

All this can easily be done through our Facebook page or our website. To to try this feature click HERE.

Technology In Focus: Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery

Laser-assisted cataract surgery is a novel approach to lens replacement that uses ultra-short pulse lasers creating smaller, more precise cuts in tissue with minimal collateral damage. It offers an improved refractive outcome, less trauma to the eye, potentially resulting in fewer complications and faster visual recovery for the patient.

The only FDA-approved platform for laser-assisted cataract surgery is the Alcon LenSx system, and Benjamin Eye Institute is one of only six surgical centers in the United States with the LenSx system.

While laser-assisted cataract surgery is safer, better, more precise than traditional cataract surgery, it is not cheaper.

If you are considering cataracts surgery, we encourage you to schedule your free consultation with Dr. Benjamin to explore the benefits of laser-assisted surgery. Learn more

Is Poor Vision Keeping You from Realizing Your Olympic Dreams?

Watching the Olympics earlier this month had me thinking about what could have been. Or at least what I dreamed about what could have been.

You see, between the ages of 12-14 I dreamed of becoming an Olympic diver someday. That is until my vision failed me. That is until I missed the end of the spring board attempting one of my patented jackknife dives and crashed into the edge of the board carving a neat chunk of skin out of the length of my back.

I begged my mom to let me wear my contacts to the pool, but these were the hard lenses days and replacing a hard lenses was an expense my single, working mom of three couldn't afford. It wasn't until years later I had the freedom of daily lenses and could get back on a spring board--my dream of being an Olympian long since tucked away in my hope chest.

Mine is a story that begs the question "how much more of our potential could we achieve with corrected vision?" I like to think I would have kept diving, eventually making my high school varsity team, then perhaps a scholarship to college. And who knows, eventually I might have earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team?

Perhaps you don't dream of making the Olympics. Perhaps it's just that you're having less fun because of impaired vision.

What activity do you shy away from because you wear eyeglasses? Is it hot yoga? Can't have those glasses slipping down your nose durning your forward folds, right? Basketball? One elbow to the head and there go your expensive frames? Perhaps, like me, you gave up some loved past time like swimming, gymnastics, or surfing because it just didn't pair well with eyeglasses.

Whatever your sport, whatever your excuse, it doesn't have to be that way.

Of course, contact lenses are always an option. And in the case of one Olympian, may have been the best option. However, when you calculate the difference between LASIK surgery costs and the cost of wearing glasses and/or contacts over a lifetime, you quite likely will decide for for LASIK surgery. Over an average lifespan, contact lenses could cost a 20 year-old up to $30,000, not including eye exams and eyeglass prescriptions. Accordingly, LASIK surgery pays for itself in as little as three years.

Is today is the day you'll return to an activity you gave up due to wearing eyeglasses? If not today, then when? The first step is easy. Schedule your FREE consultation with Benjamin Eye Institute today. Find out what you're missing. Find your passion...again!
