There are two basic types of Intra-ocular Lenses (IOLs), each designed for a specific corrective function:
- Monofocal lenses such as the Tecnis lens, provide corrective power in only one segment of your visual range (typically distance vision). These mono-focal lenses require that the patient still use reading glasses after surgery.
- Multifocal lenses such as the ReSTOR lens are designed to correct a full range of vision – near through distance. In clinical trials 80% of patients who had the ReSTOR lens implanted never used glasses for any activities following their surgery. At the Benjamin Eye Institute
95% of our patients never use glasses again after multi-focal lense implantation combined with an astigmatism correcting procedure such as an LRI at the time of their cataract procedure.
Acrysof ReSTOR - Multifocal IOL
The Acrysof ReSTOR lens allows cataract and presbyopic patients restoration of vision at all lengths from near thru to distance.
Dr. Benjamin is a leader in implantation of the ReSTOR IOL and was the first Los Angeles cataract surgeon to implant the ReSTOR lens in his private practice. Dr. Benjamin has helped thousands of Los Angeles cataract and presbyopia patients obtain excellent vision with the ReSTOR lens.
In the clinical study 80% of patients who received the ReSTOR IOL never used glasses again for any activity.
At the Benjamin Eye Institute, 96% of patients
who had the ReSTOR lens implanted never
used glasses again for any activity when
combined with an astigmatism correction
procedure such as an LRI at the same time as
their ReSTOR lens procedure.
ADVANTAGES: Excellent near and distance vision.
DISADVANTAGES: Chance of halos and glare which go away in time. Fair intermediate vision.
